Hello, I'm Lora Alexander, founder of Color Allure, professional color analyst, and creator of the ColorBreeze™ 28-season color analysis system.
I've spent much of my life studying color, makeup, skincare, and the little details that can make such a difference in how we look. Since launching my online business in 2008, I've personally analyzed more than 9,000 women and men, helping them discover the colors that best complement their natural coloring.
I'm also a licensed esthetician, makeup artist, artist, and trained image consultant. My professional background includes training in traditional four-season and expanded 12-season color analysis systems, which eventually led me to develop my own, more detailed approach.
But before I get into all that, here's how my interest in color began.

My fascination with color analysis started in high school when I discovered Carole Jackson's book Color Me Beautiful.
At the time, I had pale skin, reddish-blonde hair, and green eyes. I loved wearing pink and blue, but I couldn't understand why certain shades seemed to make me look pale and washed out.
Then I learned that I was an Autumn.
Suddenly, things began to make sense. The warmer, richer colors of Autumn harmonized with my coloring in a way that my favorite cool pinks and blues never had.
I was fascinated by the idea that something as simple as the color of a blouse could make such a visible difference.
Before long, I was mentally analyzing practically everyone I encountered. Friends, family members, coworkers, celebrities, even characters on my favorite television shows. I couldn't help myself!
What began as a personal interest eventually became a lifelong pursuit.
In 1998, I graduated from the Aveda Institute in Minneapolis, where I received my esthetics training and license.
I loved studying skincare, makeup, and the ways we could improve someone's appearance.
Unfortunately, I discovered that the traditional salon environment wasn't the right fit for me. I was much more interested in helping people understand what worked for them than in meeting sales quotas or recommending products they didn't really need.
I eventually moved into the financial industry, where I worked for nearly a decade. But my interest in beauty, color, and art never went away.
In 2008, I decided to make a change. I left my steady job (scary!) and started my own website, originally called Pretty Your World, which eventually became Color Allure.
My goal was simple: create a place where women could find practical, common-sense information about color analysis, makeup, and personal appearance without expensive gimmicks or exaggerated promises.
That philosophy hasn't changed.
When I began professionally analyzing clients, I worked with the expanded-from-4-into-the-12-season system and studied additional approaches as I continued working with more clients.
Over time, though, I kept noticing something.
Not everyone fit neatly into the existing categories.
Some people were clearly warm or cool, but their other coloring characteristics didn't quite match the season they were assigned. Others fell somewhere between established categories, making it difficult to identify a palette that felt completely right.
I wanted a system that could account for those differences without abandoning the basic principles of color theory.
After years of studying, comparing, and analyzing thousands of clients, I developed ColorBreeze™, my own 28-season personal color analysis system.
ColorBreeze builds upon traditional seasonal color analysis by introducing more detailed variations of the familiar seasons, including additional Soft, Light, Clear, and Deep categories.
The purpose wasn't to make color analysis more complicated, but to make it more accurate. It's to provide more precise options for people whose natural coloring doesn't fit comfortably into the broader seasonal categories.
You don't need to understand all 28 seasons to benefit from color analysis. In fact, much of what I teach begins with the same basic principles I learned years ago.
But for those who need a more detailed assessment, the additional categories can make a meaningful difference.
One thing I've learned from analyzing thousands of people is that color analysis needs to be based on what we can actually observe, not assumptions about how someone should look.
A person's favorite colors, personality, or fashion style don't determine their natural coloring.
Neither does a quick online quiz that asks whether someone looks better in gold or silver jewelry.
Good color analysis requires careful evaluation of undertone, value (lightness and darkness), chroma (softness or brightness), and how these qualities work together.
I also believe it's important to recognize the limitations of photographs, lighting, and digital color representation. These factors can affect what we see, which is why I approach virtual color analysis carefully rather than relying on automated results or a single image. I do a deep dive when doing my virtual color analysis on clients.
My goal is not simply to assign someone a season. It's to understand why certain colors work and give them practical information they can use when choosing clothing, makeup, hair color, and accessories.
And while I love beautiful clothing and makeup, I don't believe anyone needs an expensive wardrobe or dozens of beauty products to look their best.
In fact, choosing shades of your absolute best colors is one of the most money-saving and time-saving things you can do to look your absolute best.
Color Allure has grown considerably since I first started writing about color analysis in 2008.
Today, I share educational articles, real client examples, seasonal color information, and practical advice about makeup, clothing, and personal style in my separate Shopify Storefront.
I've also created seasonal color guides, eBooks, color swatches, and other tools to help people put their palettes to use.
For those who would rather have a professional determine their season, I offer personalized virtual color analysis services.
And for people interested in learning color analysis professionally, I founded Color Analysis Academy, where I teach traditional seasonal color analysis as well as my advanced ColorBreeze system.
When I'm not working with color, I'm usually doing something creative or spending time with my dogs.
I love gardening, wildlife, nature, drawing, and painting. I'm also perfectly happy relaxing with a good book or watching reruns of an old sitcom.
My love of art and the natural world has always influenced the way I see color. Nature is full of beautiful combinations, and I've often found inspiration for my seasonal palettes in landscapes, gardens, and changing seasons.
Although I've spent years studying the technical side of color, I still appreciate it most for its simple beauty.
Whether you're just beginning to explore personal color analysis, trying to understand why a particular season doesn't seem quite right, or interested in becoming a professional color analyst yourself, I hope you'll find something useful here.
I've spent many years learning about color, and I'm still fascinated by what it can teach us.
Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoy exploring Color Allure!
